What is gastrostomy care?<\/h2>\n \n

Gastrostomy care helps people with a feeding tube to live independently and confidently.<\/p>\n \n \n

Gastrostomy is a term used to describe a surgical opening made directly into the stomach. This artificial opening is introduced to help people who experience difficulty swallowing food and liquids. A discreet plastic peg (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube or button directly inserted into the opening allows for food and liquids, as well as medicines, to enter the stomach.<\/p>\n
